About Geysel Minoso

behind the art

Hello, I’m Geysel!

It’s nice to meet you

Born in Havana, Cuba, navigating life without the guidance to explore my aspirations was challenging. Raised in circumstances where opportunities were scarce and familial support was absent, I found solace in learning from friends and other families.

My yearning for freedom and self-expression became a driving force. In 2008, I moved to Ontario, Canada, and like many dreams, I had to put art on the back burner as I settled into my new life, pivoting to pursue studies in esthetics.

For 16 years, I dedicated myself to this craft by day while nurturing my passion for painting in my studio (which also happened to be my laundry room) at night. In 2015, experimenting with various hues, mediums, and techniques, my artistic identity was created.

Behind The Art

My canvas is my sanctuary, where emotions flow freely. Guided by the world around me, I depict tales of raw emotion through vibrant strokes, inviting viewers to experience a symphony of colours, shapes, and feelings.

Painting is my lifeline—a medium through which I've reclaimed control over my narrative. Despite a past marked by absence and solitude and a present coping with infertility, I find completeness and boundless joy within the embrace of my art. It's a conversation between paint and self, breathing life into each creation.

I strive to create art that stimulates, disrupts, and mends—inviting viewers to interpret and embrace their emotional landscapes in my chaotic yet coherent compositions. The right painting can touch your soul and make you feel something anytime you look at it. I hope you find your perfect match here.

Artist Statement

Embarking on a fresh canvas fills me with immense excitement. While I may initially envision crafting something extraordinary and captivating, the creative process takes on a life of its own, intertwining with the chosen medium, be it acrylics or inks. As I channel the energy from my subconscious into the tangible realm, the artwork takes shape, guided by each deliberate stroke or movement, until a harmonious equilibrium is achieved. Abstract art, in its enigmatic nature, elicits diverse interpretations, as it reflects the innermost projections of each individual's subconscious.

Inspiration

The absence of certain life paths only fueled my desire to explore artistry further, leading me to enroll in upcoming drawing courses at the Dundas Valley School of Art starting January 2024. This commitment reflects my dedication to refining my craft, pushing the boundaries of my creativity, and infusing new dimensions into my work.

My canvases echo my travels, encapsulating cultures, emotions, and the unspoken stories that resonate with viewers from diverse walks of life. As my husband and I yearn for more adventures around the globe, I draw inspiration from every corner of the world, infusing my creations with the vibrant hues of experiences gathered along the way.
